Johan Tallberg had the sail fishing trip of his dreams this weekend aboard the Mad Marlin. Captain Sammy Baires found the bite 12-20 miles offshore of Marina Pez Vela. The raised 11 sail fish with 11 bites and 10 releases for an admirable 91% release ratio. He topped off the day with two nice dorado for supper. Adding to his pleasure, Johan released 3 sail fish on his own reel (Shimano Tekoma 700) using 30 # braid. Mad Marlin has some great avet reels, but we encourage clients to use their own gear as well for added satisfaction. Johan did a fantastic job on the rod. He even had a triple hookup on this trip! The fishing time was only 4-5 hours. After leaving the dock around 9:30 am, replacing a broken hose clamp to a water pump Sammy returned to the dock to drop off a couple of the children due to motion sickness and send them off to the pool before heading back out to the fishing grounds. I can only imagine what a full day of fishing would have yielded. Still, on this short partial day of fishing Johan managed to log the fishing trip of his dreams. Congrats to Johan and the Mad Marlin crew for another great day of fishing in the
Guatemalan Pacific.
